A Lambo Gallardo Gets A High-Class Makeover

When Jens Dalsgaard dropped his '07 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder off at Cartronics in Santa Rosa, Calif., he gave the shop carte blanche. Says installer Dan Berry, "He actually gave it to us and told us to do to it as if it were our car. We didn't have a budget." Since the custom car lover had relied on Berry and his team to modify so many of his vehicles in the past, he knew he could trust their judgment. In this case, Berry and fellow installers Jeromy Fisher and Mike Phurman decided on plenty of carbon fiber and high-quality audio gear.

Head Unit
Carbon fiber's sleek look and light weight makes sense in a vehicle of this caliber. Berry's team custom-molded a bezel from the one-of-a-kind material to frame the new Pioneer AVIC-Z2 head unit. To this double-DIN, they hooked up all the extras Pioneer had to offer, such as Bluetooth, HD Radio, and XM Radio tuners, as well as a rearview camera.

Speakers
For speakers, Cartronics turned to Focal's Utopia Berylium Kit No. 6 with the crossblock, which they placed in the factory door locations. "We just had to build fiberglass and MDF baffles in order to make them fit because there just wasn't a lot of room in the door," Berry reveals. With the 6.5-inch speakers taken care of, space had to be made for the tweeters. The installers pulled the side portions of the three-piece leather dash out of the car and cut holes in them to house the enclosed tweets.

Amprack And Crossovers
To power the system, the install team installed a single Arc Audio Signature Series SE4200 amp under the front bonnet. The amp is mounted onto an MDF rack parallel with the front bonnet wall. "The bottom of the same well was done in MDF to house the Focal Kit No. 6 crossblocks, which were flushed into the floor under 3/4-inch clear acrylic," Berry adds.

Sub Enclosure
Berry's favorite part of the install, the sub enclosure, complements the sleek dash. "We were aiming for good solid bass response," he explains. "However, there is little room for any sizable drivers." A compact JL Audio 8W3V3-4 was only part of the solution. "We built a fiberglass and carbon-fiber enclosure that is in between the two seats," Berry reveals. By tapering the enclosure out to the backs of both seats and running it to the center console, the team was able to gain 0.34 cubic feet of sealed airspace while achieving the desired low-end response.

Wheels
As a daily driver, this Lambo needed a few more tweaks to put a little something extra behind the pedal. A new Cargraphic exhaust and performance ECU tuning helped some, while an RSC Tuning composite intake provides a breath of fresh air. To bring some carbon fiber to the exterior, new 19x11 wheels in the rear with 19x8.5 in the front were wrapped up in Continental Sport tires. Overall, it's a tight look for this customized Gallardo.
