The four Focal 27KX subwoofers put their magnets on display in the hatch. "We wanted to achieve good clean bass, but if you wanted to turn it up loud at a show, you could as well," Katz says. The subs split up into pairs, two per each 2ft3 31/44" MDF enclosure. By stretching fleece over the 111/42" MDF mounting rings and fiberglassing it, the installers were able to create the two enclosures' distinctive contours and make them look like one.

The installers pulled out the back seats in order to make room for Audison LRX amplifiers: two 4.300's for the 3-ways and two 4.100's for the subs. 11/2" metal square tubing serves as the base of the amprack to which the four amps mount. Underneath, another rack holds two Optima YellowTop batteries (an additional YellowTop replaces the factory bat under the hood). "We then built a wood frame and stretched fleece to create a unique shape that flows into the console," Katz explains. As a final touch, suede-wrapped fiberglass trims in the amprack and the back of the sub enclosure.

Installers Steve Diver, Jeremy Katz and Donnie Ross remolded the factory dash using ABS plastic. The results include a missing factory storage pocket and a new 10-inch Xenarc widescreen and Alpine CDA-9855 head unit. "We built and welded a metal frame for the radio and the LCD monitor behind the dash and bolted it in using factory bolt holes," Katz says. No body filler or fiberglass was used for this smooth transformation, only a bit of new paint to match the rest of the interior, he says. Hidden under the seat, an Audio Control DQXS handles equalization and an Alpine DVA-5210 provides a video source.
