A plug-and-play device, the Supertooth 3 simply and effectively brings hands-free calling functionality to your vehicle.
On the surface, Supertooth 3 features a loudspeaker, answer call and reject call buttons, volume buttons, a built-in microphone, and charging port. It magnetically attaches to a visor clip (it comes with two for multiple car use), for easy removal for charging in the car or at home. It comes with both 12-volt and household chargers, but you won't have to use either often as the stand-by battery life is up to 800 hours. That's about a month! In our weeks testing the device, we didn't charge it once.
The Supertooth 3 paired up easily with our phone, with voice prompts guiding us each step of the way. Our phone, however, would not let it automatically load the phone book. Fortunately, for incompatible phones the Supertooth 3 lets you beam your contacts to it manually if you so desire. After loading up our favorite people, the device was ready to go.
You can make calls by dialing on the device or using the voice dialing feature on your phone if it's so equipped. For redialing, simply push the green call button. The calls were generally clear and easy to understand for both parties. There were a few instances when the volume would automatically go lower than we would have liked (possibly due to the automatic sound level adjustment that takes place when the windows are down or the engine is revving). Fortunately, volume buttons are within easy reach.
To receive calls, the Supertooth 3 has a nifty text-to-speech and voice answer feature. For incoming calls it will announce the caller's name as inputted in your phone book or the Caller ID. When the voice answer feature is activated (just push down the volume button to do so), you can answer the call by saying "Accept Call," "Accept," "Answer" or just "OK." And for multi-ethnic users, the Supertooth 3 has 6 different languages. Our only complaint is the unnatural sounding American English voice. Prompts are understandable, but not very pleasing to the ear.
Overall, handy features, excellent battery life, and a sleek design add up in the Supertooth 3's favor. The BlueAnt Supertooth 3 is a solid hands-free device that we'd be happy to keep on our sun visor. www.blueantwireless.com
