Being the best at what you do takes talent, determination, and passion. Luckily for Brett Ivey, he is a triple-threat. Starting out doing installs at a local Circuit City, Ivey worked his way up to being one of the premier custom builders around. His accomplishments are evident in this 2006 Eclipse designed for Pepsi, which includes a fully operational IMac computer in the trunk.
Any car can have a theme, but it takes a certain level of creativity to make it work. With this Eclipse, color scheme was crucial. The car was painted what Ivey calls "Apple Computer White." Pepsi's blue and red trademark colors are reflected in the interior, trunk, and the car's rims. That mixed with the Eclipse's sleek design make for an impressive look.
In terms of audio, the car was completely gutted at the beginning of the install to prepare for sound dampening material and to prep for interior paint. Rockford Fosgate X162s 6 1/2 2 Way Component Speakers were installed in the front and Rockford Fosgate 6x9 p1693c's were put into factory locations in the rear, with only minor modifications to make them fit. To fill out the bottom end, Ivey exchanged the backseat for a custom-built subwoofer enclosure that holds four inverted Rockford Fosgate Dual Voice coil 12 inch subwoofers.
For power, Ivey used two Rockford Fosgate power series T20001bd Sub amps built on a false floor in the trunk with amp racks underneath setting them at an angle. Ivey explains, "The false floor was important because it had to cover the DC to AC converter for the computer."
Each of the system's four 7" Vivo widescreen monitors (one in the dash and three in the trunk) can be used independently to surf the web or play DVDs. The Kenwood KVT-817 In Dash DVD Receiver also has its own monitor. The 20" Apple IMac has a wireless internet connection to be used while parked and, as Ivey explains, "was installed on a custom brace constructed from a piece of square tubing and welded into the car across the two rear shock towers." With all the cables being hidden, the screen seems to float in the center of the trunk.
It is no surprise that the final product met Pepsi's specifications. The vehicle was featured on their 2006 DUB tour and on their website at www.pepsistreetmotion.com.
